Norley Hall 1st's had a double win weekend, the victims being Prescott & Odyessey in the league and rivals Burscough in the Sandhurst Shield quarter final. On Saturday, Norley bowled first and bowled the opposition out for 217. An average score for City Road. Skipper Mat Norvall claiming 5-54 in what was an ordinary bowling performance by all, this is an area the team are looking to improve over the coming weeks. Norley set after the target in a positive manner, pro Imi Qadir reaching another half century for the club. A flurry of wickets were soon lost, and this brought to the crease Keegan and Craig Hatch. The pair still attacked, and put on 102 for the 6th wicket which was the match winning partnership in the end, with Keegan with his personal best of 60 for the club, and Craig Hatch finished on 70*.
On Sunday the 1st's travelled to Burscough for the Sandhurst Shield quarter final. After losing the toss, they were put in on what was a lively track. Scoring runs was difficult and not many batsmen managed to get going. The only partnership that provided any resistance was between Keegan and Norvall who put on about 70 runs for the 6th wicket, Keegan on 35 and Norvall 37, posting a target of 161.
The hosts got off to a flying start having 50 on the board in no time, a double change bringing on the spin duo of Hollinrake and McLoughlin almost stopped them in their tracks and soon the game was in the balance. Needing wickets quickly Norley needed to try something different, and on came Gary Hughes. He used the wicket to his advantage and wickets began to fell. An outstanding run out by Gary Hughes pushed the game in Norley's favour, and needing one wicket for victory, Hughes bowled the last batsman and ended up with 6 wickets. An unlikely bowling hero, this shows the diversity of the current squad.
Promotion in sight now, keep concentrating and lets work towards our desired goal of playing in the LDCC. Come on boys!
